Directions: Look back on your Phase Two paper and your Phase Two annotated bibliography. Think about the process of developing your rhetorical strategies, and the communication of your purpose to your audience. Explain in 200 words or less how this assignment helped you to gain a better understanding of your topic and how you would deliver your argument to your audience.
Some questions to consider: What did you learn from this unit? What do you still want to know about rhetoric and purpose? What do you still want to know about using websites or interviews for research materials?
Due by 5pm on October 22nd. Do not perform the blog until after you have turned in your paper.

I learned from this unit how to better structure a paper. I have always had problems dropping quotes and logical fallacies, but now I am woking on not doing either one of those. Both are very easy to do…but both are also easy to fix. I have learned to use other peoples words and never my personal opinions. The best way to do it is to find someone who says pretty much your opinion or point and quote them! : ) I would like to find a way to write more creatively but academically at the same time…but maybe thats not possible...
ReplyDeleteThis assignment helped me to gain a better understanding of my topic through research, and focusing on reaching and convincing my audience. Having more sources for this paper allowed me to learn more about my topic, and what information was most important to include in order to have a convincing argument. I better learned who my audience was through research, and how to emotionally appeal to them through my writing. I still would like to learn how to sound more professional, and how to balance academic writing while still writing so that it is easy to understand. The only site I could find an interview on was YouTube so I would like to be able to have other sites that had good interviews available.
ReplyDeleteFor this paper, I really had to focus hard to make sure that I wasn’t using “I”, “my”, “me”, and “you” anywhere and I feel that I did a good job of it. I also learned how to get better at my paraphrasing and quoting, but that was hard with the type of information sources that I am finding for my topic. I feel that I did a pretty good job so far on this portion.
ReplyDeleteI feel I did much better overall but English is not my forte. I really am trying to be a better writer and this class and the group work we have done so far has helped immensely. Finding sources is difficult and key wording is everything. I was really hoping to find an actual archive of automotive racing advancements but no such luck yet.
ReplyDeleteFrom this unit I learned how to include context in my introduction to better attract my readers and evoke emotion out of them. I still want to know how to incorporate
ReplyDeleteinformation from a website without being so bland and presenting the information in a manner that isn't boring but rather exciting and engaging.
Additionally, I learned that including your own personal opinions is almost never appropriate because there is no evidence to back it up and may disengage your audience.
Your purpose isn't to state how you feel but rather present the facts and the research you conducted including the facts that support it and attempt to get
your intended audience to agree with you. Although I will admit that changing your topic so far into the semester was definitely problematic because it forced me
to conduct entirely new research and find a new set of sources. Word of adice to my future self or anyone else for that matter, pick a topic and stick to it!
In Unit 2 it has helped me gain a better understanding of what exactly it is I am writing about. Although, I feel like I need to learn how to make my argument a bit more convincing to make people want to read it. It is the part of what people haven’t heard before. Also, formatting my page is a lot easier for me now. The annotated bibliography was my hardest point for some reason. I made it harder than it really was. Also formatting where I should put my thesis and hook to catch my audience is easier. I can’t just assume my audience is going to know what I am talking about. It is all about the introduction first before you can convince your audience to read your paper.
ReplyDeleteWith unit 2 I learned how to do better research in order to arrange my thesis so that it flows fluently. I know I need to make my annotated bibliography more detailed and having topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph. Unit 2 helped me get a better understanding of how the number of homeless has caused issues with non-homeless people and anti-homeless laws have caused more problems than I ever thought. At first I was against anti-homeless laws now I am almost in the middle because of a court case I read. The hardest thing about unit 1 was looking for a video interview other than that I enjoyed writing it.
ReplyDeleteThrough unit two of this assignment, I've learned to how to make an argument more concise by excluding all the fluff and simply putting out the facts, and the reasoning behind why said facts are relevant to the purpose of the argument. I feel I've also learned to take the personal factor out of the paper because personal experience and feelings have no actual evidence or facts to back them up, therefore they end up undermining my argument as whole more than anything.
ReplyDeleteFrom this unit I've learned how to make a constructive and concise research paper. I've always had problems writing research papers before but during this unit I felt that it was easier to research my topic and write on it. Though when researching the interview was the most challenging part by far. When it came to annotating my interview, I didn't realize to use the LBH to cite it, until being corrected the day of peer reviews.
ReplyDeleteThis unit two assignment was a lot easier than the previous ones. by now I am sure about my topic and when researching for sources, I was able to apply the skills I learned previously. The readings in both The Inquiry and The Little brown Handbook helped as well because I learned to create an accurate context in my thesis to draw my readers in. Because I understood my topic more, I was also able to identify who my audience is. Overall, this assignment helped me to not only understand my thesis, but also helped me learn new strategies to present it to my audience as believable.
ReplyDeleteUnit two helped me get a better feel for writing this research paper. Data mining along with the need for many ‘extra’ sources showed me how I would present the argument and also what I would use to do so. I am still confused over web citations, but the rest is straightforward to me. My direction swayed a fair amount while researching, partly due to new information, but also due to me not liking to argue a point; instead I like to let facts speak for themselves and let others make up their own minds. I had a fair amount of confusion over interviews. The two questions I still have are: Can the interview be off of a TV show? Can an interview be conducted through email? I really like the use of the web, simply because everything is on the web. Limiting the sources and only allowing one web page messed with me because I love to use statistics. Limiting this source made me have to rely on analysis more to actually provide the full spectrum, which probably did not go extremely well. Otherwise, the unit was very helpful and I look forward to actually writing a longer paper.
