Reflection: Final Paper and Final Annotated Bibliography

Directions: you are done with (maybe) your first major research project. Think about all you have accomplished and learned over the last semester, moving from Phase One to the Final Phase. What did you learn from the various sources? Did you find any part of the Phase process particularly difficult? What successes do you see--what accomplishments--that you can take into your other college courses? Try not to think in terms of what your grades say about your process as much as what your mind and self-valuation say about your process. 100-200 words.

Due before 5pm on December 10th.

No reply.

Thank you for your participation and work over the semester. Have a great break!

  1. I learned from my various sources how relevant my argument is, and how much scientific evidence supports my thesis. I found the initial search for sources difficult, and the search for an interview to be hard to find. Also, writing the first draft was the hardest because I had to pull information from all of my sources and from them derive a solid thesis. This paper helped to build my confidence that I can write an academic paper well, and earn good grades if I put in a lot of effort. I also now know how to find credible sources quickly, and how to keep a detailed working bibliography, both things that will help me in future classes.

  2. This paper took me to new levels in terms of researching information. I learned a lot more about how to find relevant sources than I knew before. The only struggle that I really had along the way was deciding which sources to use and which to discard. When I have to do papers in the future, the lessons I learned on how to synthesize information will be a HUGE help.

  3. I enjoyed all the different research methods that we had to use. I also like having to use a counter argument because I have never really written a paper with that element in it before. I was surprised with the bibliography taking so long initially, but once I had a majority of my sources cited the rest of the phases were easier. Overall I thought the class had a lot to offer in terms of the research process and research papers.

  4. I definitely enjoyed this class throughout the semester despite the difficulties I endured. The most I have learned about during this class is the importance of research and valuable places to find them. Because we were required to search from many different places to find sources, I was able to see a wide range of places to find different standpoints of my topic. All of the phases were equally difficult but I personally struggled with the first phase because I was constantly changing my topic. Fortunately I was finally able to find a topic I enjoyed and was able to write about. This class really focused on good research and I feel like this will assist me in future research projects because I would know where to find many valuable sources.

Thank you for such a great class!!

  5. This class definitely was not as hard and monotonous as I expected it to be (mainly because I've never really been a fan of English). I learned a large amount about researching and my topic. Finding many sources and then figuring out what sources I wanted to use was especially helpful to writing the paper(s). What became the most difficult part of the phases for me was moving from a shorter paper to a longer paper each time. I could not get a good grasp on simply adding to the paper, so I ended up restructuring, reorganizing, and almost rewriting the paper every phase. I'm definitely surprised at my writing ability as I have always told myself that I am not too good at writing. Writing is inevitable with everything I want to accomplish so this class has been extremely helpful in that regard. I end up writing research papers with mostly facts and analysis, so this paper was a close match.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class despite my expectations! Thank you!

  6. Over the semester I found a new love for English. I learned how to create an annotated bibliography and that I can write good papers. I found it hard to do some of the research such as finding a contending source and interviews. But I did enjoy the challenge. I feel that this process will help me in the future as I want to get my major in pre-law and my minors in English, perhaps even look into becoming a college teacher in the future. I really enjoyed taking this class and learned a lot about English and myself.
Thank you for the good times

  7. Despite what my grade may reflect, I achieved the goal I set out at the begining of the semester. I knew this class would be difficult, but I wanted to challenge myself. I feel I had many successes and accomplishments during this research project. With patience and time I was able to find sources that became critical to my final argument. I struggled with the structure of my paper, but by walking away from my paper for longer periods at a time I was able to solve the problem. I honestly feel better prepared for future college classes. I may still struggle, but this class taught me to endure.

  8. During the semester, I have learned a lot of ways to find different sources to get research for whatever I had to look up. It did also help me find research easier within my other classes. The class was very beneficial for me in the present, along with the future as I go further into my education in College. However, I did find it difficult towards the end when I felt like I needed more information on my topic, but didn't know what more to find. I tried my best to make the perfect paper to get a good grade. Also, I learned a lot more on how to write better. I didn’t get that help in my 121 class so it was nice to have someone to actually say I needed this or take this out.
